An exciting component of the Ricketts family plan calls for an open-air plaza-type space to be developed outside the ballpark to be enjoyed by Cubs fans, visitors and families in the community year-round. The goal is to create an attractive destination for family activities and other community events on non-game days. These activities may include hosting an ice rink during the winter and farmers markets in the summer.

Concurrent with the Cubs' new deal with CBS Radio, the Ricketts family entered into a co-production deal with CBS radio to produce fun, outdoor music events in the plaza on game and non-game days.
